$21 million upgrade at Roma Mitchell Secondary College officially opened

16 April 2025

Roma Mitchell Secondary College has undergone a $21 million redevelopment, with a new state-of the-art gymnasium, giving students and the community access to a top-tier sporting facility.

The new facility, which is a hub for the school’s Sports Academy and High-Performance programs, was officially opened on Tuesday 8 April.

Built to international competition standards, the new gymnasium features changerooms, a sports storage area, multiple classrooms and a modern canteen and cafeteria - all designed to improve the student’s experience.

Located in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, the project has created capacity for an additional 180 places at the school, increasing the total capacity to 2114 students. Projected enrolments for 2029 are about 1450 students, with the total capacity allowing for further growth in the northern suburbs over the coming decades.

The college was purpose-built in 2011 and has four campuses co-located on its Gepps Cross site – the Girls’ campus, Middle campus, Senior campus and Special campus.

This redevelopment underscores the college's commitment to providing an inclusive and comprehensive education environment.

Roma Mitchell Secondary College Principal Toni Carellas said, Roma Mitchell Secondary College is incredibly excited to have the new gymnasium facility now available for our students, staff, and the wider community.

“Students have used the gymnasium this term for the Sports Academy Program, Health and Physical Education lessons and during breaks, while the strength and conditioning facility is also highly valued”.

“The new classrooms and multipurpose spaces have enhanced our ability to deliver a diverse curriculum using a range of teaching and learning styles to ensure lessons are tailored to meet the varied needs of our students”, Carellas said.
