Kingston Community School $4 million redevelopment

11 April 2025

Middle school students at Kingston Community School now have access to their own hub, situated in one of two new permanent modular buildings, thanks to a $4 million redevelopment.

The new facilities, which allow students to better engage with their learning, were officially opened Thursday 10 April.

The redevelopment replaced buildings more than half a century old which still had blackboards, aged carpet and minimal storage space. These buildings were repurposed from the Kingston Area School prior to Kingston Community School’s establishment in 1986.

One of the new modular buildings is a dedicated food technology centre, giving students access to a high-quality facility offering catering and lesson opportunities that could not be explored previously.

The other is a general learning facility, including 6 classrooms with sliding doors between rooms to support collaboration, teacher offices and accessible amenities - including a shower, which are already being used by agriculture staff.

Kingston Community School Principal Samantha Murdock said, we want students and staff to take pride in their learning environment at Kingston Community School, and that’s why it’s important we equip them with modern facilities to help our students be effective and highly engaged learners.

“We’re grateful the State Government’s stepped in with these major upgrades which were years in the making and have allowed us to develop our middle school model”.

“I’ve seen firsthand how parents recently visiting Kingston Community School have been surprised by the extent of our facilities and what’s on offer for students”, Ms Murdock said.

A new $8.1 million Early Learning Centre (ELC) is also on the horizon for Kingston Community School as part of a separate joint commitment by the State and Federal Governments and a philanthropic contributor.

The ELC project is currently in the tender phase for an architect and, when constructed, will enable a seamless transition from early childhood education to primary and secondary schooling via the facility’s long day care and preschool services.
